Provided you are at
least 14 (we have no upper limit!), we will be happy to consider
your application. For adult volunteers we request a minimum of a
six-month commitment. Some positions require a 12-month commitment
based on the level of complexity of the position.
For student volunteers
we request a commitment of the length of the program (September –
June or July and August). School forms will be signed after
completion of 50 hours.
Adult volunteers are
accepted on an ongoing basis with volunteer orientation occurring
twice a month.
When you visit York Central
Hospital, you will notice that all volunteers are in a custom
designed forest green uniform with the logo of the Volunteer
Association. Women, men and student volunteers wear their choice
of golf shirt, vest or short jacket.
During my six years at the
hospital, I have made many friends. I feel very happy with my
service and enjoy my volunteer job very much. "Giving is
better than receiving". - Amy Chow
I like to help people and I try
to put a smile on their faces. I feel fulfilled too, when I help
others serve the community. - Vince Giraudi
As a student volunteer, I
realize the difference one can make so others can live a better
life. In my volunteer position, I aid staff by stocking medical
equipment in patient rooms and assist nurses and physicians with
various tasks. - Sami Ahmed
Volunteering provides me with the
opportunity to contribute not only to my community, but to my
employer, Bell Canada, by enhancing my team building, leadership
and communication skills. It has enriched my life in so many ways. - Joan Grass
