Child and Family Services provides specialized out-patient treatment for children, adolescents and their families. Our staff consists of a multi-disciplinary team of mental health professionals in psychology, social work, child and youth work, and psychiatry.
We provide services to children, adolescents and families with a wide range of emotional, behavioural and psychological problems which lead to significant disruption in various aspects of their lives such as their home, school and community.
Services Available
Child and Family Services provides assessment and treatment for children and adolescent with significant symptoms of:
- Anxiety disorders
- Mood disorders
- Psychotic disorders
- ADHD - Accepted for assessment and medication consultations only through the ADHD Assessment and Medication Stabilization Clinic. For therapy services, clients must have concurrent depression or anxiety.
While treatment is initially provided within the context of the family, individual or group formats may also be offered depending on client needs. Psychiatric consultation is available to clients of Child and Family Services in conjunction with ongoing therapy, as appropriate.
Specialized Clinics
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Clinic
The ADHD Clinic provides assessment and medication stabilization services to children and adolescents who are demonstrating ADHD symptoms.

Child and Adolescent Anxiety Clinic
The Anxiety Clinic provides assessment and treatment services to children and adolescents who are experiencing significant anxiety symptoms or have a diagnosed anxiety disorder.

Diagnostic and Medication Consultation Clinic
The Diagnostic and Medication Consultation Clinic is a service offered to physicians by the Child and Family Services psychiatrists. This clinic provides assessment and medication recommendations, where appropriate, to assist with their ongoing treatment of patients. No long-term follow-up services will be provided, only short-term medication monitoring and stabilization.

Client Responsibilities
The therapeutic process is a joint responsibility between the client and the therapist. Clients are encouraged to express concerns directly to their therapist.
Clients are responsible for giving at least 24 hours advance notice of cancellations, or a cancellation fee will be charged.
Referral Requirements
Child and Family Services will accept clients who meet the following criteria:
- Children and adolescents between 6 to 18 years of age;
- Currently living within the service area of York Central Hospital or have a physician who is affiliated with York Central Hospital;
- Must be referred by a physician. Clients must also contact the Child and Family Services secretary to activate the referral process;
- In cases of joint custody for individuals under the age of 16, joint consent for treatment by both parents is required.
Referrals are not accepted for court/legal assessment purposes.
