How to look after someone at home with H1N1 Flu Virus

Influenza A(H1N1)
The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) and the Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion (OAHPP) has informed hospitals in Ontario about a number of Influenza A(H1N1) cases occurring in:

  • Mexico,
  • Ohio,
  • Texas,
  • Kansas,
  • California, and
  • New York.

To all visitors, staff, volunteers, and physicians:

Please go directly to the closest Emergency Department or your family physician, if:

  • you have traveled to Mexico or the affected United States in the last 10 days, AND
  • you have one or more of the following symptoms

SYMPTOMS

  • Fever and chills
    AND/OR
  • New or worsening cough and/or shortness of breath

Other symptoms include:

  • Sore throat
  • Muscle and joint aches

To protect yourself and others, please remember to:

  • Wash your hands well and often
  • Sneeze or cough into your upper sleeve
  • Stay at home and do not visit hospital patients when you are ill
