Hospital representatives update Peter Shurman, MPP, Thornhill, on current challenges, progress on our redevelopment and the need for his support on a number of key issues during his recent visit to York Central Hospital. MPP Shurman receives a tour of areas such as the Emergency Department, Operating Room, Family Birthing Centre and Interim Dialysis.

York Central Hospital’s Redevelopment Reaches Half-way Milestone

York Central Hospital celebrates the passing of the half-way mark for Phase One of its major expansion and renovation project slated for completion in spring 2009.  The event includes the traditional ceremonial pouring of the last bucket of cement on the roof of its new North Wing as well as a special Topping-Off Ceremony

RICHMOND HILL, ON – June 21, 2007 – York Central Hospital (YCH) is partnering with Sodexho, the leading provider of food and facilities management services, to implement an Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) solution.  This partnership will create the most comprehensive IFM implementation at any hospital in Canada encompassing everything from environmental services, to patient and retail food services, plant operations and maintenance, patient and materials transfer to security.

York Central Hospital Receives $9.7 million Increase in Annual Operating Funds
-June 8, 2007
Thornhill MPP Mario G. Racco shared the news that York Central Hospital will receive a $9.7 million increase over last year’s annual operating budget as per our 2007/08 Hospital Accountability Agreement (HAA). This represents 7.6 percent increase in operating funds for York Central Hospital as compared to the 3.7 percent increase received by most Ontario hospitals. According to MPP Racco, the additional funding was provided in recognition of the significant challenges faced by York Central in providing healthcare services for one of Canada’s fastest growing communities.

York Central Hospital Board Approves Development of New Health Care Centre in Vaughan
- March 6, 2007
York Central Hospital’s Board of Trustees recently approved a proposal for York Central Hospital to move forward in working with a local developer on the design and construction of a new Health Care Centre located at the northeast corner of Rutherford Road and Melville Avenue in Vaughan. This endorsement will help to create a second health care facility under the York Central Hospital banner in the Vaughan community.

Total Joint Assessment Centre Opening

The Honourable George Smitherman, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, today celebrated new partnerships that have created innovative solutions to wait times for hip and knee replacement.  The Total Joint Assessment Centre (TJAC), located at North York General Hospital's Branson Site, is a new model of care delivery, which evolved through collaborations among four hospitals to reduce wait times and improve outcomes.
