Core Services are defined as services that: Must be provided by a hospital for reasons of safety, expertise or expensive technology/equipment; Cannot exist without the hospital; Are needed by the hospital to conduct the business of patient care; Support the Emergency Department; Have sufficient volume to operate safely and cost efficiently; and Require close to home access for patients to avoid or reduce demands on patients and family.
