WAYS TO GIVE  | PRIORITY PROJECTS

Did you know that the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care provides most of the funding that the hospital needs to cover operating expenses such as salaries, heat and hydro, and did you also know, however, the purchase of new equipment is not funded by the government, it is dependent on the generous support of our community?

Currently York Central Hospital Foundation is engaged in a $6 million campaign to purchase state-of-the-art equipment and technology so that the hospital’s team of dedicated professionals has the necessary tools to deliver expert and compassionate care.

Examples of equipment required include:

Vital Sign Monitors for Complex Continuing Care measure body temperature, pulse rate, respiration rate, blood pressure and blood oxygen saturation. Vital signs monitors enable health care professionals to evaluate patients quickly, allowing them to progress to other tasks more efficiently and focus on improving the patient’s health. They are a way of quickly assessing how serious an illness is and how well the body is coping with the resulting biological stress.

Cost $2,600 each   Quantity Required (2)

Anaesthesia Infusion Pumps for the Operating Room are used to deliver anaesthetic during surgery to ensure patients are safely and appropriately sedated.

Cost $4,964 each Quantity Required (8)

A Probe for the Urology Clinic is used to gather information about the prostate and urinary tract. It is vital for the detection of prostate cancer. As is the case in many cancers, early detection is the key to a better prognosis.

Cost $10,000 each  Quantity Required (1)

Electrocardiography (ECG) is used in Laboratories, the Emergency Department and Pre-Surgery Clinics to record the rhythm of the heart over a specified period of time. The results of the test can either indicate normal heart activity or detect abnormal rhythms of the heart and damaged heart muscle.

Cost $18,000 each  Quantity Required (4)

An Infant Resuscitator in the Women & Child Program is used to mechanically assist or replace spontaneous breathing. It is used in acute settings for a short period of time during a serious illness. Mechanical ventilation is often a life-saving intervention.

Cost $24,000 each Quantity Required (1)

Neonatal Physiologic Monitor for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit provides a constant display of the baby’s heart rate and rhythm, breathing rate, arterial or central venous pressure, and other useful information.

Cost $25,000 each Quantity Required (6-12)

Adult Ventilators for Respiratory Therapy provide artificial ventilation for patients who are unable to provide adequate oxygen to their lungs through normal breathing. It is typically used for seriously ill patients whose lungs require treatment or temporary rest.

Cost $50,000 each   Quantity Required (2)

Neonatal Isolette for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit keeps the baby warm with moistened air in a clean environment, and helps to protect the baby from noise, drafts, infection, and excess handling.

Cost: $25,000 each Quantity Required (6 to 12)

An Ultrasound Machine for the Medical Imaging Department is a diagnostic medical imaging technique used to visualize the size and structure of muscles, tendons, and internal organs. It is also used to visualize a fetus during routine and emergency prenatal care. Soft tissue imaging of many other parts of the body is conducted with ultrasound. Other scans routinely conducted are cardiac, renal, liver and gallbladder. Because of the real time nature of ultrasound, it is often used to guide interventional procedures such as biopsies.

Cost $250,000 each   Quantity Required (1)
